Mary Virginia Tuinstra

Board Member

Mary Virginia was born in Houston, TX. Early in life, her mother recognized her considerable musical talents and at significant sacrifice, provided for piano lessons at age 4, dance lessons at age 10 and voice lessons at age 14. About that time she also started running the 50-meter hurdles at San Jacinto  High School, setting state and national records. She represented the US in the 1954 Pan-American Games, winning a silver medal after singing the national anthem at the opening ceremonies.
