As Director and primary choreographer, she is at the helm of a team of two dozen skilled jazz and tap dancers.
Under her direction, the group has performed close to 3,000 times and won five national dance championships. She has led the Dazzlers at performances in Atlantic City, Las Vegas and in the prestigious Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Dempsey, 80, served on the inaugural Senior Follies' board of directors.
She has performed with the Dazzlers in the Senior Follies every year since its inception. In the first 8 years, she performed with Follies Founder, Ned Startzel, in a Vaudeville comedy act, joking, singing and dancing. Fran misses her pal, Ned, who brought immense joy and inspiration into her life.
Dempsey, who has appeared in numerous television productions and newspaper articles, was a nominee for the Texas Woman's Hall of Fame in 2012, honoring her artistic achievement. In her limited spare time, Dempsey and husband Tom of 53 years are active members of First Baptist Church/Richardson, proving some Baptists actually do dance.
